UPDATED JANUARY 8, 2025

Welcome to my blog!  Over time you’ll find historical perspectives, political thoughts, inspiration, humorous anecdotes, how-to’s with sewing, quilting, crocheting, gardens and backyard farm animals, and videos, photos and information on various topics from the perspective of a nerd.  And you’ll probably see a lot of introspective material coming out now that I’m a bit older and wiser.

A little bit about me:

I am a fifty-something woman living in the suburbs of southern Ventura County, just north of L.A.  I’m married to a wonderful, sexy, sarcastic, intelligent man who also happens to be a nerd.  Together, we have a shared love of all things fantasy and sci-fi.  Both my husband and I are fairly well-educated, he more so than I, but we crack wise routinely in the most ridiculous ways and keep each other in stitches.  I hope to do the same for you all.

We are owned by two dogs, nine chickens, and two goats.  The dogs and chickens are legal, the goats are iffy, but I never ask permission and rarely ask forgiveness.  So far my neighbors have indulged my eccentricities.

Since COVID I quit teaching yoga.  Many were surprised by that.  I have my own pseudo-practice now.  I’ve been asked why I quit, and until recently I’ve struggled to find a decent, concise, and honest answer.  (I’m all about being honest with myself these days.)  What I came up with is this: I was disappointed in so many things about the yoga community–the lack of support for my small business despite the lip-service, the conspiracy-theory bull shit and pseudoscience nonsense that came out of the community as gospel in response to COVID, and quite frankly my waning trust in people in general–that I decided I was done.  Most don’t know this, but I am a natural introvert.  Backing out when I had an easy and obvious exit seemed appropriate.

Presently, in addition to working as a paralegal and doing some bookkeeping work on the side, I am in the middle of finding a new life direction that includes getting our finances in order, getting rid of a lot of junk we’ve been hanging on to for no discernible reason, and turning our garage into my sewing studio so we can reclaim the dining room we lost to that activity during COVID and never regained.  I’ll probably start YouTubing about my progress so others know they aren’t alone and might be inspired to do something similar.

I am finally starting to write again, and have specific ideas for three non-fiction books which I’ve begun working on.  A bunch of people want to sell me their “self-publishing services,” which I find amusing, but which might eventually come in handy.  We shall see.

I am going to sell my motorcycles, hopefully this month.  There are a lot of ways I can die, and I finally came around to the notion that I don’t really need to artificially inflate that list of possibilities.   I haven’t been scuba diving in ages, but diving with whale sharks is still on my bucket list.  I am back in the gym, set a personal best record in a 10k I ran last October, and plan to participate in the Halloween Disney half marathon this year.  I’m back to cooking as well, and still enjoying my Anova combi-oven, though I’ve been warned it will up and die on me soon with no way to fix it.

So, I’m rebooting this site as of today, Wednesday, January 8, 2025.  Buckle up!  Here we go…
